Orchard Primary Academy

Science Super Sleuths!

Children at Orchard took part in a week long hands-on experience with a team of forensic experts from Think Forensic.

Reception pupils have tried a variety of techniques used by real scenes of crime officers to solve their own mystery based on the fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Quote from Principal

“The event has engaged and motivated children. This is an example of how we at Orchard primary Academy make learning fun and interactive for all.”

Quote form Early Years Team

“It has been a fantastic week of learning that has captivated children’s interests and has been an incredibly fun week for all.”

Sue Proctor, MD at Think Forensic is keen to develop the enquiring mind of four and five years olds for the first time as the company usually works with older children.  The programme ‘Future Minds’ is specifically designed to cater for younger children with simple techniques such as finger printing, shoe print analysis and chromatography.  It also ambitiously promotes problem solving, communicating ideas, listening skills, numeracy and literacy.

Debbie Lumb who is a qualified science teacher has helped develop the guided activities so that classroom teachers feel confident in delivering the programme for the rest of the week.

Quote from Think Forensic Team

“On behalf of the Think Forensic team we would like to say a really big thank you for a tremendous morning with the children at Orchard Primary. We were all very impressed at how focussed the children were throughout the morning. Your staff are totally dedicated and were extremely welcoming.”

Orchard Primary children demonstrated how they solved the mystery to their parents in a fantastic workshop at the end of the week too.
